What are we doing?
OK America wants to be the definitive resource of and for all artists, makers, creative entrepreneurs, brand owners, curators, gallerists, and art historians that are witnessing and participating in today’s wave of social activism and wish to connect with like minded individuals.
The overall mission of OK America is to connect civically engaged artists and makers in the city of Atlanta and in the nation at large. We do this by promoting individual artists and organizations whose work empowers others, represents an underserved community, or speaks to socio-political injustices, and by directing this population back towards one another.
Why are we doing it?
If we share the same values and goals, and manifest them in similar ways, yet exist without knowledge of one another, then what do we really have?
America has seen a tremendous increase in the number of artists and entrepreneurs producing work on social justice issues recently. While this is certainly a wonderful thing, it seems to us that these individual efforts are becoming increasingly fragmented, and that there was and is an opportunity to unify them. By joining individual efforts into one, larger conversation, we feel that any civically engaged artist or maker can feel a greater sense of community, and with that community, a greater sense of impact. We are truly better together.
