WonderRoot is proud to announce the opening of our new screen printing studio at Ponce City Market!
Please join us for the launch of this exciting social justice-oriented screen printing space, which includes:
Open-Access Studio: WonderRoot will host and staff an open studio. Visitors can receive a tutorial on how to screen print, learn more about WonderRoot’s mission and the importance of accessible messaging, and try their hand at making a print. This no-cost workshop space is open to the public and all-ages. WonderRoot will provide practice stencils.
Local artist collaboration: Every few weeks, we will tackle a different social justice issue. Our first focus is on transportation access and public transit. WonderRoot will burn designs by local artists onto screens that visitors can then use to create large-scale screen prints. Each design will be aesthetically imaginative, high quality, and explores issues of access, mobility and public transportation. These prints will be for sale; proceeds support participating artists and the print studio space.
Learning and Library Space: WonderRoot will dedicate a section of the studio to information about our featured social justice issue. In this way we will give a platform for people who are already doing important community work surrounding these topics–while also giving visitors a way to be more involved.
Exhibition space: Some prints made in the space will be hung for display.
